Beach is the most famous tourist area in the north of
Bali, offering the spectacle of dolphin watching on
calm seas. The beach, of grey and black volcanic sand,
is situated on the coast of Singaraja Regency. The sea
is very calm here, and coconut palms grow all along
the beachfront. There are many hotels, restaurants and
shops supporting this area as an alternative to the
more heavily touristed south. |
Banjar
These
hot springs are located near the village of Banjar in
the north of Bali, where the original hot water from
the mountain flows down to the public bathing area.
Designed with a number of different pools and showers,
the two main warm-water ponds make Banjar hot springs
an ideal place for bathing. The water is warm, green
and slightly sulphurous, very soft to the touch and
considered by the Balinese to be holy. The original
source is Mount Batukaru, where the water takes on its
brimstone character, and the baths are also visited
by many local people. |
Brahma Arama Wihara (Buddhist
Temple)
Bali's
single Buddhist monastery, only vaguely Buddhist in
appearance, with colourful decorations, a bright orange
roof and statues of Buddha, has very Balinese decorative
carvings and door guardians. It is quite a handsome
structure in a commanding location, with views that
reach down into the valley and across the rice fields
to the sea. |
