Bali Barat National Park
Bali
Barat (West Bali) National Park is a protected forest
area covering 19000 hectares in Negara/Jembrana Regency,
and is dedicated to protecting Bali’s flora and
fauna. Among the rare creatures to be found in the national
park are the very scarce Bali starlings, known locally
as Jalak Bali. Due to poaching to meet the demand for
live birds, the starlings are on the verge of extinction
in the wild, although some hundreds or thousands of
them are still kept privately. If you are lucky, you
may catch sight of this rare bird with its beautiful
white plumage. |
Menjangan Island
Menjangan
Island, or “Deer Island”, is located close
to West Bali National Park, and is the natural habitat
of wild deer. The island is accessible only by boat
from Labuhan Lalang. Unspoilt coral surrounds the island,
and the crystal clear waters and abundance of marine
life give the area its well-deserved reputation as the
best place for diving in Bali. Many dive operators in
Bali recommend this area as an absolute must-see. The
closest town to Menjangan Island is Jembrana’s
capital, Negara. |
